Every six months I have the task of running the reports and writing out the cheques for the Commission for Conservation programme. Since 2004, when the programme began, I have written out cheques totalling £6059.24! The top 5 beneficiaries of the funds include:
| £3,637.84 | Hawk & Owl Trust |
| £2,088.36 | African Bird Club |
| £303.81 | BirdLife International (various projects, including the Saving Species from Extinction : Spoon-billed Sandpiper project) |
| £197.40 | Oriental Bird Club (various projects) |
| £86.06 | Leicestershire & Rutland Ornithological Society |
How have these funds been collected? A large number of organisations take part in our Commission for Conservation programme. They encourage their members and visitors to use links from their web-site to buy from WildSounds. Based on these sales, we donate 5% of most book & DVD sales and 3% of most electronic equipment sales to the charities nominated by the participants in the programme. If you would like to join this worthwhile programme, please contact me at isales@wildsounds.com.
In August 2010 we introduced another feature on our web-site. If you place an order with WildSounds you'll be given the opportunity to add a few pennies to a virtual penny pot. This feature has been hard at work raising much needed funds - money that does not come from us, but money that comes from the generosity of our customers. To date you have helped us collect the following funds through the virtual penny pots:
| £5.00 | Buglife |
| £5.06 | BirdLife Malta |
| £9.01 | Hawk & Owl Trust |
| £43.70 | BirdLife International (Spoonbilled Sandpiper) |
We also rattle real tins at Bird Fairs and the like. In 2011, for example, rattling buckets at lectures at the British BirdWatching Fair raised a massive £500.04. This will be given to the team surveying Spoon-billed Sandpipers to support their vital work. Other tins cashed in during between 2011 raised a total of £145.09 which again will go the BirdLife International Preventing Extinctions program to save the Spoon-billed Sandpiper from extinction. This money comes from you, from people who believe, as we do, that conservation matters and that we can make a difference.
Participants who helped raised money in the Commission for Conservation Programme include:
| Participant | Amount Raised | Supported Charity |
| Bird Watching Magazine | £3,127.85 | (Hawk & Owl Trust) |
| African Bird Club | £2,008.09 | |
| Limosa Holidays | £191.00 | (Oriental Bird Club) |
| Leicestershire & Rutland Ornithological Society | £86.06 | |
| Norfolk Wildlife Trust | £69.79 | |
| Bird Watching Magazine | £55.84 | (BirdLife International) |
| In-Focus | £49.45 | (BirdLife International) |
| WildWings | £36.23 | (BirdLife International) |
| Limosa Holidays | £33.99 | (BirdLife International) |
| Birds Illustrated | £28.00 | (BirdLife International) |
| Bird Quest | £23.18 | (BirdLife International) |
| Nottinghamshire Birdwatchers | £16.83 | |
| Hawk & Owl Trust | £16.09 | |
| Sunbird | £12.49 | (BirdLife International) |
| Avian Adventures | £11.54 | (BirdLife International) |
| Wild About India | £5.90 | (Oriental Bird Club) |
| Wiltshire Ornithological Society | £2.35 | |
| Simon King | £2.20 | (TUSK) |
| Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust | £1.41 | |
| Bird Watching & Wildlife Club | £0.64 | (BirdLife International) |
(If there is a discrepancy between the total amount raised and the total amount donated to a charity - it is because we occasionally round cheques up).
The amounts listed above are correct for sales up to 30 September 2010, and this report was compiled in December 2010.
