Birds of Northern India

Richard Grimmett & Tim Inskipp

Available from the end of October 2017. Helm Field Guide.

Based on the highly acclaimed Field Guide Birds of the Indian Subcontinent by the same authors, this guide covers northern India and Pakistan. Each plate is accompanied by text highlighting identification, voice, habitat, altitudinal range, distribution and status.

Northern India is defined for the purposes of this book as comprising the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat, and the Union Territory of Delhi, which is arguably the area best known in Indian ornithological terms. The avifaunas of the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Diu are poorly known and they are here treated with Punjab and Gujarat, respectively. The book does NOT cover the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the seven states that comprise north-east India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura) because their inclusion would substantially increase its size. These states are covered in Field Guide Birds of the Indian Subcontinent

Please note there are no distribution maps. Distribution and status is indicated via a series of abbreviations. 304 pages.
