Bird Songs in Cuba

Bird Songs in Cuba

George Reynard & Orlando Garrido

Studies of endemic Cuban birds offer a rich field, not only of vocalisations, but also of little known life histories for many of the species. This two CD set contains songs, calls, and other sounds of resident migratory birds endemic to the Republic of Cuba, including the principal Island of Cuba, the Isle of Youth, and more than 16000 keys and islets of the Cuban Archipelago. Areas visited consist of all the main habitats of the Cuban Archipelago: lakeshores, swamps, plains, woodlands, and elevations from sea-level to some of the higher mountains of eastern Cuba.

In addition to the recordings from Cuba, the production includes several other recordings for study comparison between related species such as the Chuck-will's-widow (Caprimulgus carolinensis) and the Greater Antillean Nightjar (Caprimulgus cubanensis). Birds Songs in Cuba also contains recordings of supplementary sequences from outside Cuba, including the Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) from the Dominican Republic, the Bee Hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae), and the Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos).
