Birds of Southern India
Richard Grimmett & Tim Inskipp
Helm Field Guide. Written by two of the authors who produced the ground-breaking Birds of the Indian Subcontinent. It uses the plates in that book and is the essential reference for anyone birding in the region. The plates are accompanied by succinct text highlighting identification, voice, habitat, altitudinal range, distribution and status. The text is on facing pages to the plates, for easy reference. Please note there are no distribution maps. Distribution and status is indicated via a series of abbreviations.
Southern India is defined for the purposes of this book as comprising the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep.Little has been published about the avifauna of the Union Territory of Pondicherry and it is here treated with Tamil Nadu. In addition, the Maldives, although not part of India, are included as they are part of a chain of islands extending southwards from Lakshadweep.
Like previous guides: Birds of Bhutan, Birds of Northern India & Birds of Nepal, this guide is a perfect size for use in the field and will be an essential companion when visiting this region. 240 pages.
