British Stonefly Families
David Pryce et al
This introductory AIDGAP field guide to stoneflies includes identification keys for the identification of both stonefly larvae and adults to family level.
Reliable identification is possible for specimens over 5mm in length. Scientific species names are mainly used but these are matched with the common names in the flight calendar at the end of the chart.
In Britain, 34 species of stonefly have been recorded, belonging to seven families. Two of the species are, however, possibly extinct and one further species, Isogenus nubecula, appears to have suffered a catastrophic decline; its only known UK site is on the Welsh River Dee.
