Finding Birds in The Gambia
Dave Gosney
This book, updated in 2019, is the most comprehensive guide to birding sites in The Gambia, not just the areas around the tourist hotels at the coast but also at many sites further afield and upriver.
"Until now, most birders visiting The Gambia have been using Rod Ward's Birdwatchers' Guide to The Gambia as their bible to help them plan their trip. It's a great book but is now 18 years old and concentrates heavily on the areas around the tourist hotels. But there are other areas in the Gambia that are much more productive (and attractive) so I've written a new guide to show how much better the birding can be if you leave the tourists behind. If you don't get this book you are likely to miss out on some of the best birding that The Gambia can offer. This latest edition is based on my 2019 visit. I had heard plenty of stories that the birding sites in the Gambia were being degraded so I went back to many of them to check what the current situation was. This version gives you a more up-to-date picture of many of the sites and adds a couple of new ones."
