Stefan Buczacki & George F Peterken

Available from 19 November 2026. Professor Stefan Buczacki is equally well known as the presenter of many hundreds of radio and television gardening programmes and as one of the country's most experienced non-fiction authors with well over fifty published titles on natural history, gardening and biography, many for HarperCollins. He is a graduate of the Universities of Southampton and Oxford and holds distinctions and awards from many scientific societies as well as honorary degrees.

George Peterken is a forest ecologist who worked for the Nature Conservancy and successor bodies. He initiated the ancient woodland inventory, helped develop the Broadleaves Policy of 1985, researched the relationships between woodland flora and woodland history, and advised on the management of semi-natural woodlands. After 1992, he worked independently, partly as conservation adviser to the Forestry Commission, before concentrating on writing books and initiating local grassland conservation projects. He has published books on woodland conservation and management, natural woodland, the Wye Valley, meadows and the long-term study of Lady Park Wood. He held a fellowship at Harvard University, remains an associate professor of Nottingham University and has a D.Sc. from London University. In 1994, he was awarded an OBE for services to forestry. As one of the few ecologists with an AKC, a theology qualification, it is appropriate that his recent work has been on aspects of churchyard natural history. 400 pages.
